Statement of Purpose
Aims
To deliver safe, effective and commercially sustainable clinical services through the continuous development and deployment of innovative digital technology. MPS is committed to ensuring that all applicants are subject to rigorous clinical screening and, where medically appropriate, are supplied with Prescription Only Medicines (POMs) by appropriately trained and competent community pharmacists, supported where appropriate by pharmacy technicians, operating under Patient Group Directions (PGDs). All services are designed to meet relevant regulatory requirements and to support high standards of patient safety, clinical governance and professional accountability.
Objectives
To invest in and develop secure, scalable digital platforms that enable community pharmacists, supported by pharmacy technicians, to deliver an expanding portfolio of patient centred clinical services in a safe, efficient and compliant manner.
To work collaboratively with community pharmacy partners to maximise patient choice, accessibility and convenience, while supporting sustainable service delivery models that meet commercial and regulatory expectations.
To enable and accelerate the transition from paper based PGD services to robust electronic PGD (ePGD) systems, enhancing auditability, data integrity, clinical oversight and regulatory assurance.
To ensure that all services are underpinned by clear governance frameworks, appropriate training and competency requirements, and ongoing monitoring to support continuous quality improvement and compliance with professional and statutory standards.
Services Provided
MPS provides comprehensive Patient Group Direction (PGD) services in both paper based and electronic formats. These services enable suitably trained and authorised community pharmacists, supported by pharmacy technicians where appropriate, to deliver a wide range of PGD approved treatments and interventions. The electronic PGD offering supports improved governance, accountability and operational efficiency, while providing a scalable and commercially viable solution aligned with regulatory expectations and best practice in patient care delivery.
MPS also delivers an Occupational Health Scheme to clients, supporting business continuity planning and workforce resilience, particularly in the context of influenza pandemics.
Our PGDs are based on relevant clinical guidelines from organizations such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the British National Formulary (BNF), the latest information on vaccines and vaccination procedures from the Green Book and the Summary of Product Characteristics from the Electronic Medicines Compendium. These guidelines are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect the latest evidence-based practice to ensure they remain up-to-date with clinical guidelines
Our services are specifically designed to empower pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, with the skills and confidence to offer a wide range of PGD authorised services.
